PANELIST BIOS

Vicki Worden, President & CEO, Green Building Initiative, Inc.
Vicki Worden brings twenty-five years of expertise applying sustainability priorities to a wide breadth of industries. She has served as CEO of GBI since 2015 and works with some of the largest real estate developers in North America on incorporating sustainability, health & wellness, and resilience practices into design, construction, and facility operations. As a passionate advocate for stewardship and transparency, Worden launched an ESG initiative at GBI focused on education and support of GBI’s portfolio members in their efforts to integrate ESG throughout their organizations. GBI now provides additional expert support of owners that are benchmarking and reporting through organizations like GRESB, where GBI is an industry partner and Green Globes is recognized as a Tier 1 certification program for new and existing buildings.

GBI has certified more than 430 million square feet of space in the U.S. and Canada through Green Globes and its Guiding Principles Compliance verification program. The organization is in the midst of a global expansion effort to meet the demand of Green Globes’ growing base of clients. GBI offers exceptional education, user-friendly tools, comprehensive standards, and value-added expertise to support every building situation from individual owners to REITs and for every building type from multifamily, warehouses, and offices, to health care facilities, data centers, and laboratories.

Worden is the former chair of the National Institute of Building Sciences Consultative Council and is an accomplished public affairs and association management professional holding an MBA from Loyola University in Maryland and Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from West Chester University.


Lotte Schlegel, Executive Director, Institute for Market Transformation
Lotte Schlegel is the Executive Director of the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT), a national nonprofit organization that aims to decarbonize buildings by catalyzing widespread and sustained demand for high-performance buildings. Under her guidance, IMT leverages its expertise in the intersection of real estate and public policy to help make buildings more productive, affordable, valuable, and resilient.

Previously, Lotte worked as the Vice President for Business Development and Operations for an international water and energy efficiency implementation company where she developed market entry strategy, programs, and business opportunities. She previously served as IMT’s Chief Operating Officer and was an analyst for the Maine Public Utilities Commission, focusing on electric utility rate cases, energy procurement, and electric reliability issues, and helping run a residential energy efficiency and clean energy program.

She is a graduate of Wellesley College and holds an MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.


Valentina Fomenko, Ph.D., CEO, Strategy DNA, Inc.

Valentina Fomenko is a business strategist and expert in helping organizations respond to rapid change, including the myriad strategic, organizational, and regulatory challenges related to ESG. As founder and CEO of Strategy DNA, a decision-support company at the intersection of opportunity, sustainability, and impact, Valentina helps startups, enterprises, and investors identify points of growth, predict disruptions, and adapt to market shifts.

In addition to her work with Strategy DNA, she serves as a consultant for the World Bank on their environmental initiatives. Valentina has over 15 years of experience directing strategy and sustainability projects across over 20 industries, with particular focus on environmental economics and policy, enterprise sustainability, energy, and clean tech.

Valentina has a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Oregon State University, an MBA from Duke University, and MSc from Central European University.


Brenna Walraven, CEO, Corporate Sustainability Strategies
Brenna Walraven is an internationally recognized leader in the commercial real estate industry. She has excelled at leading large, diverse real estate organizations and has served some of the most discriminating institutional investors. Ms. Walraven founded Corporate Sustainability Strategies (CSS), a firm dedicated to providing best practice solutions for organizations through thought leadership, innovation, and the pursuit of excellence. CSS helps clients develop and execute strategies in areas of real estate operations, asset management, and sustainability. Her experience includes roles as Head of Property Operations, Portfolio Manager among others, providing strategic leadership for national, multi-sector real estate portfolio. She served on former California Governor Schwarzenegger’s Real Estate Leadership Council and has testified before Congress on issues of energy efficiency and sustainability. Ms. Walraven is former chair and chief elected officer for Building Owners and Managers Association International (BOMA), the first woman to serve as chair in the association’s 100-plus-year history. She is a founding leader and developer of BOMA’s Energy Efficiency Program, which has trained over 35,000 real estate professionals since 2006.

In addition to being an accomplished author, a sought-after speaker, and a talented instructor for 25 years, Ms. Walraven thoroughly enjoys helping organizations and teams be the best they can be. She holds a B.A. in Economics and MBA from University of Southern California.
