GBI Launches Journey to Net Zero Compass™, a Subscription-Based Planning Tool for Building Decarbonization

This expanded offering gives building owners, operators, and sustainability professionals unlimited access to GBI’s Journey to Net Zero™ Calculator Tool to model, plan, and track progress toward net zero goals.

The Green Building Initiative (GBI) today announced the launch of Journey to Net Zero Compass™, a new subscription offering that provides organizations with direct, unlimited access to the Journey to Net Zero (JNZ) Calculator Tool. Compass enables building owners, operators, portfolio managers, and sustainability professionals to model energy consumption and carbon emissions, test scenarios, and chart a clear path toward net zero without the requirements of formal project registration.

Designed as an accessible on-ramp to GBI’s established Journey to Net Zero program, Compass addresses one of the most common barriers to decarbonization planning: the gap between organizational intent and actionable insight. By providing a dedicated planning environment grounded in the JNZ methodology, Compass helps teams evaluate their buildings earlier, identify high-impact opportunities, and build the institutional confidence needed to advance toward formal assessment and certification.

“Decarbonization is no longer a future consideration for the built environment – it is an immediate operational priority,” said Lauren Wibe, Associate Director, Sustainability Programs, GBI. “The Journey to Net Zero Compass subscription was built to meet organizations where they are. Whether a team is just beginning to understand their carbon footprint or actively preparing for formal assessment, Compass gives them the tools, methodology, and expert support to move forward with confidence.”

Key Features of Journey to Net Zero™ Compass

  • Unlimited Project Access: Create and test an unlimited number of projects within the JNZ Calculator Tool, with no restrictions on scenarios or iterations.
  • Portfolio and Building Dashboards: Track energy consumption and carbon emission metrics across individual assets or entire portfolios within a single platform.
  • Expert Technical Support: Five hours per year of direct guidance from GBI’s Program Development team to support platform use and planning strategy.
  • Complimentary Course Enrollment: One included enrollment in the Journey to Net Zero Foundations educational course to accelerate team onboarding and methodology fluency.
