Dual Certification Now Easier Using GBI’s Green Globes & IWBI’s WELL v2 and WELL Community Standard

Green Globes® meets the criteria outlined by the certified building requirements of WELL v2 Feature I05

Portland, Ore. – Green Building Initiative (GBI) is pleased to announce the inclusion of Green Globes® in the International Well Building Institute’s (IWBI) list of green building rating systems that have been evaluated and found to meet the criteria outlined by the certified building requirements of WELL v2 Feature I05: Green Building Rating Systems and the WELL Community Standard.

“Inclusion of Green Globes reflects its status as a leading certification standard in North America for new construction and existing buildings,” said Vicki Worden, President and CEO of GBI. “IWBI’s recognition of Green Globes makes it easier for the growing base of practitioners that are pursuing dual certification on new builds and building improvement projects to advance their sustainability, resilience, and health and wellness goals.”

GBI’s building rating program was approved by IWBI because Green Globes meets the program’s list of requirements, including:

  • A primary goal of advancing sustainability and green practices in built spaces
  • Inclusion of a transparent development, rating and scoring processes
  • Third-party review process to confirm achievements

“GBI and IWBI’s certification programs complement each other incredibly well,” said Charlie Saville, VP of Sustainability at Salas O’Brien. “I have already had clients asking about their ability to certify projects with Green Globes and the WELL Community Standard. I’m excited that I can now help these communities better demonstrate achievement of their goals with dual certification.”

GBI has certified more than 400 million square feet in the U.S. and Canada with Green Globes and is rapidly working on global expansion. GBI’s reputation for exceptional service and support has been earned by delivering a tailored and transparent approach to certification. Its approach pairs highly qualified third-party assessors that bring significant expertise in the design and operations of sustainable buildings with project teams from the earliest stages of their efforts right through an onsite assessment and walk through of a building. In addition, it delivers a customized report outlining achievements and opportunities for future enhancements.

GBI is pleased to offer education and support to interested A/E/C firms, sustainability consultants, state and local governments, and building owners pursuing Green Globes certification.
