GBI Advocates for High-Performance Buildings on Capitol Hill

GBI was proud to take a leading role in national High-Performance Buildings Week in Washington, D.C. this spring. With the event celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, GBI joined members of the High-Performance Buildings Coalition (HPBC) on Capitol Hill to advocate for resilient, efficient, and sustainable building practices — bringing the green building industry’s voice directly to the people shaping national policy.

High-Performance Buildings Week is organized by the HPBC, a private-sector coalition of approximately 200 organizations that support the High-Performance Buildings Caucus of the U.S. Congress. Now in its third decade, this annual event has become one of the most important touchpoints for connecting industry leaders with policymakers to promote forward-thinking building policy at the federal level.

This year’s program reflected the rapidly evolving landscape of the built environment. GBI’s Jenna Morgan Hamilton participated in the Congressional Briefing: “Unleashing AI Dominance: Data Center Performance, Flexibility, and Resilience” — a timely session that underscored the growing intersection of sustainable building and the surging demand for high-performance data center infrastructure. Hamilton was joined on the panel by Cassie Powers of NASEO, Todd Sims of NEMA, and Mukul Anand of ASHRAE, bringing together a broad cross-section of industry expertise.

Beyond the briefing, Hamilton met directly with members of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to share GBI’s green building insights and advocate for continued support of high-performance building policies and programs. These conversations are essential to ensuring that sustainability remains a priority in the legislative decisions that shape how America’s buildings are designed, constructed, and operated.

GBI remains committed to advancing high-performance building policy at every level — and High-Performance Buildings Week is a vital opportunity to make that commitment heard where it matters most.
