GBI Releases 2023 Lookback, Highlights Impact on Built Environment & Community   

Portland, Ore., August 8, 2024 – The Green Building Initiative (GBI) is pleased to share its second annual 2023 Lookback, a report highlighting organizational and community achievements in 2023.

 “We are proud to share our accomplishments with our stakeholders, each directly supporting the advancement of GBI’s mission and vision,” stated GBI President & CEO Vicki Worden.

GBI celebrated a myriad of accomplishments in 2023, including:

  • Surpassing 630M square feet of certified commercial and multifamily space.
  • Developing and piloting the Green Globes Journey to Net Zero assessment and certification program with nearly 100M square feet of real estate enrolled in the pilot.
  • Releasing a second ANSI standard – Green Globes for Existing Buildings 2023.
  • Electing Tim Thiel (Covestro) as Board Chair.
  • Announcing three outstanding projects for 2022 Project of the Year Awards during Earth Week.
  • Recognizing seven new Green Globes and Guiding Principles Compliance Fellows.
  • Continuing to open new markets and forge strategic partnerships with industry leaders.
