Portland, Ore. – The Green Building Initiative, Inc. (GBI) is pleased to announce the inclusion of Green Globes certification in the Evanston, Illinois Green Building Ordinance. The ordinance requires city-owned or financed buildings and interior renovations to earn third-party green building certification such as Green Globes.

The update to the Green Building Ordinance reflects Evanston’s commitment to sustainable practices in the built environment as a signatory of the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement and reflects the City’s ambitious 2018 Climate Action and Resilience Plan (CARP) goals, which include reducing building energy consumption by 35% from 2005 levels by 2035.

“Accessible, science-based third-party assessments like Green Globes support the development of sustainable, healthy, and resilient buildings,'' said Vicki Worden, GBI’s President & CEO. “To date, GBI has certified over 32 million square feet in the state of Illinois. The inclusion of Green Globes certification in the Green Building Ordinance will allow us to expand our support of Evanston’s building owners and project teams in pursuit of sustainability and ESG goals.“

GBI earned its reputation for excellence by applying a tailored approach to the certification process. GBI pairs project teams with highly qualified third-party assessors from the earliest stages of design through onsite assessment, walk-through, and delivery of a customized final certification report. All assessors have extensive experience designing and operating sustainable buildings. GBI’s Green Globes interactive software allows building owners to monitor and compare performance for individual buildings or across portfolios.

GBI offers resources and education and support to interested A/E/C firms, sustainability consultants, and building owners pursuing Green Globes certification. Please contact to schedule a meeting or presentation.
